Welcome to the August Newsletter.

The August newsletter coincides with the launch of our new website. This month we focus on the annual conference of the NSW Farmers Association. Congratulations to the new President, Charles Armstrong and also to the Farmer and Young Farmer of the year winners. A special mention of Anna Hart who comes from Tabulam in our region. Anna won the John White Memorial scholarship.

Westpac Regional Economic Report Volume Three, June 2009

Summary:-

  • The agricultural sector outlook is looking brighter as global economic conditions stabilise and prospects for a world recovery in 2010 improve;
  • Demand for commodities is firming and international commodity prices have shown improvement since March.
  • Australian farm output has rebounded sharply over the last year as the sector recovered from drought. The jump in rural exports has contributed to the Australian economy performing better than anticipated. However, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned of the increased risk of an El Niño event occurring this year.
  • Our feature article takes a longer term view of the dairy industry.

Farmsafe Farmer of the Year Awards 2009

Farm SafeNominations are being called for the 2009 Farmsafe Farmer of the Year.

These awards, sponsored by CGU Insurance to recognise farmers, farm business and farm safety community groups that have made changes to improving safety on Australian farms.

There are three award of up to $1500 to recognise farm safety effort.
