Ludwig to lead industry delegation to the Middle East
|
|
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, will travel to the Middle East this week to meet with governments and importers regarding the implementation of a new regulatory framework that seeks to ensure Australian livestock exported for slaughter are treated at, or above, internationally accepted animal welfare standards.
Minister Ludwig will lead a delegation of livestock industry members and their representatives to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, all of which are significant markets for livestock exports from Australia.
Reforms to Australia’s livestock export trade, announced by the government on 21 October last year, require exporters to put in place controlled and independently audited supply chains that meet internationally accepted animal welfare standards.
Ludwig has highlighted the government’s commitment to securing a long-term future for Australia’s livestock export industry, as well as the jobs, families and communities that rely on it.

Bookmarks and any links to sites will still work.
Changes to the DAFF home page will make it more helpful, easier to use and the new picture-based links will provide easy access to popular sites.
The updates will take place during the week of 30 January. It will take time for the changes to be made across all sites and pages, so you’ll see some of the old and some of the new during the transition week.

Ten million reasons to enjoy seafood
|
|
ABARES will compile the first national stock assessment reports of Australia’s key wild fish species with input from the Commonwealth and the states and Northern Territory governments in a new initiative to promote sustainability. Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Sid Sidebottom, said the ABARES National Fisheries Stock Status Reports will help fishers and seafood consumers make informed choices in the fish they catch and eat.
“For the first time, Australian fishers, seafood consumers and policy makers will soon have available a single national assessment of the status of the top 50 wild caught species, based primarily on their contribution to the value of Australian fisheries,” Mr Sidebottom said. Mr Sidebottom said the ABARES National Fisheries Stock Status Reports are one of 26 projects being fundedthrough the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation’s annual $10 million funding round for research and development.
